For my last project I’ve been doing research about the usage and application of psychedelic substances, especially within the field of psychological medication. Some substances that would fall within the category ‘psychedelics’ or ‘entheogenous’ are: 3,4-Methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDMA),Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), N, N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT), Psilocybin (Active compound in magic mushrooms), Peyote, Ibogaine, Marijuana.
For this particular research I centralized LSD and psilocybin as these compounds are:
Known to have very low risks, including no known cases of overdose
Non addictive going as far that they can even be counter-addictive
Long term researched, stemming back to the 1950’s
Used in psychotherapy to cure and help with
End-in life anxiety
Depression
Social anxiety
Elevating mood levels long term
Because of these unusual and lesser-known applications of these drugs, I took a particular interest in them for this research. In my opinion not enough people are aware of the developments and through my project I want to inform them about the possible benefit and upside of these psychedelic substances. Hence my project concept: ‘I want to involve psychedelics in the current therapy and medical care program’.
Within this therapy almost everything takes place within the mind. Because these issues stem in the mind psychedelics have a high potential considering they are very potent in activating brain activity up to 80% by influencing the neurons. This has inspired me to shape my building in the form of a ‘brain’ (the front of the building) connected by the ‘neurons’ (the flows and construction). This is especially visible in the blueprints and diagrams.
The form of the building is modelled so it becomes a nice and smooth extension of the Erasmus MC. People can visit this building to learn more about these psychedelic substances and their application. There will be a lot of public spaces and a seminar room on the first floor. On the second floor there will be spaces for psychedelic therapy, including a small patio to go outside.
My message is not necessarily that psychedelics are good for you, but it’s to shed light on the truth that psychedelics can definitely have a beneficial impact and are very potent substances with a wide variety of uses. On my online blog; https://jonkerfriso.wixsite.com/psychedelictherapy you can find the step-by-step process. Here I also link to a lot of research, which will be mind-boggling if you take some time to get into it, filled with facts contradicting the most vicious of stigmatic beliefs.
As an end-note I would like to leave you with a little information. A book that I’ve read and has helped me a lot with this research is ‘The psychedelic explorer’s guide’ by James Fadiman. I would also highly recommend you to check out this 4 minute video to get a better impression of the effects of psychedelics
